Fall is Proof (spouse view)

If you have read the two previous parts thank you! If you have not and you are starting here with this post a quick catch up. I wanted to focus a little on my past and then getting caught up to present day. I was focusing on how fall is proof that change is beautiful and how that correlates with being transgender. One key element I thought was going to help make it come full circle was having my wife’s perspective on transitioning as I transitioned. I asked my wife, Ashley, to write whatever came to my mind, no restrictions to size just whatever was on her mind and heart. So this next part is Ashley’s writings unedited by me and written by her…..

Fall is proof that change is beautiful

spouses perspective 3/3

As much as I like Taylor’s fall quote “fall is proof that change is beautiful”, there is another fall quote I like even more… “do not fear the leaves changing, for it is leading to the best season of your life yet”. With every change in life, this quote has rung true.

The first change was meeting Tim and saying yes to being his girlfriend. I was enjoying the single college life and doing whatever I wanted to do, enjoying the freedom of being independent and on my own. Even if I was unsure about this change at first, it led to the best season of my life at the time. Enjoying college while having someone always in my corner and always there for me.

Next came moving in together and being unsure of if the change from being with parents to being just the two of us would be a successful change. People always say you see each other for who you are really are once you move in together. But once again this quote proved true because being together all the time was the best season of life yet for us. It was amazing grocery shopping and cooking together. I loved coming home to seeing Tim every night.

Getting married was a small change but still significant. You fear what is going to happen, will life get boring and will it be harder? But, nope! Our life was filled with adventures and travels! Life seems easier than ever before. Once again, the quote was true.

Another big change is having kids. Probably one of the scariest changes. You hear over and over again how hard having kids is on relationships. You have less time for one another, there are more responsibilities to argue over, and you are sleep deprived. There was so much to fear but our transition into parenthood was nothing to to be scared of. We worked together so well and just adored our girls. This was certainly the best season of our lives.

All of these changes to prepare us for the biggest change to date… Tim revealing their true selves and showing me & the world Taylor. There was so much to fear with this change. Fear in how our relationship would change, fear in how the world would see us, what this change even means….just so much unknown. I started off fearful of the littlest things…growing nails longer….hair highlights…and getting eyebrows done. Once I saw that these little changes actually weren’t bad after all it became easier to accept the bigger changes such as a new name and new clothes.

As a shock to me, these changes have also lead to the best season of our lives so far. A season where Taylor is happier than she has ever been and that happiness radiates through everything she does. This season is where our relationship has grown and we know each other better than ever. Our girls have the best version of Taylor as their daddy.

So, I think I have finally learned my lesson. Do not fear the leaves changing, for it is leading to the best season of your life.
